Offense vs Defense: Measuring Predictors of Winning in NCAA Basketball

  • Co-authored published sports analytics research on predictors of winning in NCAA Division I men’s basketball using 2013–2021 team data

  • Analyzed 3,155 team-season observations across 355 teams and 32 conferences using linear, multiple, and logistic regression in R

  • Evaluated 15 offensive and defensive performance metrics to determine which best predicted winning percentage, games won, and championship outcomes

  • Found that offensive efficiency was the strongest overall predictor of team success, with offensive metrics generally outperforming defensive metrics in forecasting wins

  • Built stepwise regression models showing that a largely offense-driven subset of variables explained about 81% of variation in games won

  • Identified that both offense and defense matter for championships, though offensive metrics showed slightly greater influence on title success

The Impact of Women’s Education on Fertility in Ethiopia

  • Authored economics research paper analyzing the impact of women’s education on fertility in Ethiopia using 2019 Ethiopian Demographic and Health Survey data

  • Conducted regression analysis on 13,823 observations to evaluate how years of schooling relate to total children ever born

  • Found that each additional year of education was associated with a 0.062 decrease in births, controlling for demographic and socioeconomic factors

  • Assessed fertility patterns across urban and rural populations, finding a similar negative education effect in both groups

  • Incorporated variables including age, wealth, contraceptive use, age at cohabitation, employment, and regional controls

  • Developed policy-focused insights on education, women’s empowerment, and population outcomes in sub-Saharan Africa
